MEGA-X is a cross-platform application for molecular evolution and phylogenetics that helps you analyze DNA, RNA, and protein sequences with speed and clarity. Designed for both newcomers and experienced researchers, it combines an intuitive interface with robust, publication-grade analytics.

Key capabilities:

  • Import and manage sequence data from common formats with built-in editors and quality checks
  • Align sequences and curate alignments to prepare high-quality datasets
  • Build phylogenetic trees using established methods such as Maximum Likelihood and Neighbor-Joining
  • Assess support with bootstrapping and visualize uncertainty directly on trees
  • Select substitution models and estimate evolutionary distances and rates
  • Explore molecular clock assumptions and infer divergence times where appropriate
  • Generate clear, customizable tree visualizations and export ready-to-publish figures and tables
  • Save and reuse analysis settings to ensure reproducible workflows

Whether you’re teaching, learning, or conducting advanced research, MEGA-X streamlines the path from raw sequences to well-supported evolutionary insights.

MEGA-X is developed by iGEM and is used by 75 users of Software Informer. The most popular version of this product among our users is 10.2. The names of program executable files are MEGAX32.exe, MEGAX64.exe.
